Interact Drama Classes started in 1996 as a single adult class by a trio of local actor/director professionals - Martin Phelan, Cindy Diver and Hilary Norris. Since then we have built that single class into the ten classes with 170+ students of all-ages school that it is today. Our classes are held in the Queens Room of 97 Moray Place, Dunedin NZ
The philosophy behind our classes has always been the empowerment of students with confidence, creativity and performance knowledge.
All Interact tutors are professionals by trade, making their living in the performance industry and bringing to their teaching practical and proven performance skills and training techniques .
The skills gained are put into practice, as we believe 'acting is doing', and the students work on small performances in the class space, and twice-yearly productions produced for family and friends.
All new students can enrol for the first class as an introduction before committing for the term, and if they decide it’s not for them then they only pay for that one session attended.
Primary
We have separated our primary school students into 5-6yrs and 7-10yrs aged groups.
Intermediate
For students who are in school years 7 & 8 (aged 11-12).
Highschool
Split into two age groups Junior High (aged 13-15) and Young Adults (aged 15-18yrs)
Adult
This class caters for any adults aged 18 and over with any range of skill level and experience.
Meet The TEam
Our success depends on the strength of our team. All Interact tutors are professionals by trade, making their living in the performance industry and bringing to their teaching practical and proven performance skills and training techniques. As professionals we know that there is no 'one' method of performance training that works for everybody, so we have cut and paste different styles/techniques to tailor-make the classes to suit the needs and skill levels of our students.

We also bring in professional actor/coaches in our skills terms who take workshops on their specialised techniques; including Shakespeare, Acting for Screen, Movement, Script Analysis, Laban, Voice and Accents.
Every year we show case the skills our students have gained.
Getting our students up on stage acting is a strong focus for our classes, and every second term we get them in front of an audience to put their skills into practice.

Giving back To the community
Every term Interact Drama Classes is pleased to offer up to four scholarships to students who have the drive and talent to learn acting skills with us. The scholarships cover the full fees for the term. There are two sections to the Interact scholarships.
